Website Development: When Is It Time To Update Your Site?

After you initially launch your business website, there will come a time when you’ll need to update its design or features. Your site probably can’t stay the same for years on end, not if you want to keep it optimized for customers and friendly to search engine algorithms.

An important part of your website development strategy involves deciding when to perform major updates on your site. The following are a few issues to consider:

  • Your site needs to accommodate developments in technology. For example, businesses must now ensure that their sites are responsive and mobile-friendly. As pointed out in a recent article from Business 2 Community, your site has to show up attractively and remain engaging and usable across different computing devices, no matter what size screen they have.
  • You need to improve site features. Ideally, you’ll collect data on how people engage with your site. Measure how they explore it, what they click on, what they ignore, and when they tend to drop off or buy something. After analyzing the data, make refinements to your site. For example, maybe you need to enlarge your call-to-action or remove an image that’s causing a page to load too slowly. Consider improving your site in increments, based on its performance and customers’ responses to it. You don’t have to delay making changes, especially if they’re relatively minor.
  • Your site needs a new look. Sites that haven’t been updated in years tend to look stale and boring. Your site’s tone and personality may no longer suit your business and the direction it’s headed in.

Your website may need tweaking or perhaps a complete overhaul. Don’t hesitate to contact us to improve your site. A well-designed website reflects well on your brand and can significantly improve your sales and lead generation.
