Inbound Marketing: What No One Tells You About Social Media Engagement

Have you ever heard the saying that something is better than nothing? Well, that might be true most of the time, but that paradigm can be a faux pas when it comes to inbound marketing. In particular, it is vital to always be cognizant of how many likes you are receiving on Facebook. Having just a small handful of likes could be even worse than having none at all, or not showing your like bar to the public. The book 25 Terrifying Reasons Your Website Is Not Successful notes:

A high number of likes will increase the conversion rate. To play it safe, anything below 25 might be detrimental, 30-99 may or may not create a difference, and 100+ is likely to sway conversion favorably. A very high number of likes, such as a 1,000, could show a very significant increase in sign-ups or sales.

In other words, likes are a type of social currency, and if you have more of them, then your brand will be looked upon favorably. If you only have a handful of them, then people may disregard your message, even if it is a good one. It is essential to remember that a lot of this stuff happens on a subconscious level. Logic is logic. Emotions are emotions. Even if you are appealing to an educated customer base, this effect may still be in play. In summary, consider hiding your Facebook likes, if you have less than 30 per post.
